About the Panchakarma

What is Panchakarma? Panchakarma is the most comprehensive detoxification protocol in Ayurvedic medicine. The name translates as 'five actions' — referring to five systematic purification procedures that work together to eliminate accumulated toxins (Ama) from the tissues and channels of the body, restore doshic balance, and renew the body's natural capacity for self-healing. At Kurichiyil Ayurveda, Panchakarma is administered under the direct supervision of our physicians, with each of the five procedures selected and sequenced based on the individual's constitution and clinical presentation. The therapy typically begins with preparatory treatments (Poorvakarma) — including internal oleation (Snehapana) and therapeutic sweating (Swedana) — to loosen and mobilise toxins before the primary procedures begin. The Five Procedures of Panchakarma: Vamana — Therapeutic emesis to eliminate excess Kapha and toxins from the upper body Virechana — Controlled purgation to cleanse excess Pitta and the gastrointestinal tract Nasya — Medicated nasal administration to cleanse the head, neck, and respiratory channels Basti — Medicated enema therapy, the most powerful procedure for Vata disorders Raktamokshana — Therapeutic bloodletting to address conditions rooted in blood vitiation Conditions Addressed: Chronic digestive disorders · Arthritis and joint conditions · Skin diseases · Neurological disorders · Respiratory conditions · Metabolic imbalances · Stress and fatigue Duration of Treatment: 7 to 21 days, determined following physician consultation and Prakriti assessment.
